Success Killers

Someone once said, “You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind”. If long term success is desired, you must have a positive attitude and a forward focus about yourself and your current situations. Beware of the killers that destroy success.

Overcoming 3 Success Killers:

1 – Un-thankful –
Not showing or give appreciation for little things is a sure killer down the road. Sometimes we think its wimpy to say "thank you" and be polite but I have gotten into many places that I wouldn't have, by showing gratitude for small things. One writer put it this way, “It is not happy people who are thankful; it is thankful people who are happy.” To be thankful means that we appreciate other people. A thankful disposition is fundamental to achieving long term success.

To Do: Create a list of things you're appreciative of and read it daily. This activity can cultivate a positive attitude and keep the proper perspective in view. Remember to, “Be thankful in everything no matter what the circumstances may be….” Practice thinking positively about yourself and what you have, then you will open the door for more success in your life.

2. Negativity – Life is full of negative situations. However, that does not mean our attitude has to be negative with it. Allow a bad situation to become positive in your mind by learning something from it. Character is built by making it through tough times and challenges. I like to hear success stories and you probably do too. Stories of how someone made it through a devastating time. Most movies that are top in the box office have characters that made it through tough obstacles that should have taken them out.

To Do: You and I are constantly faced with dilemmas that can turn us negative, regretful, bitter, angry, etc. In spite of all that, allow yourselves to reach beyond the problems and see the strength that can be gained by persevering through. Also, work to keep a positive attitude through the pain, it will help you make better decisions and build personal value for success.

3. Complaining –  Many times we are trying to find an issue with someone or something first. An attitude for success is to first look for what's right and what should be. Are our complaints building others up to be better or tearing them down.

To Do: Keep your complaints to a minimum, no matter what the problem, try to have a good attitude. Work on saying something positive to someone today. Look for the good in people before you look for something to complain about. Give people the benefit of doubt first.

Closing: An unchanged negative attitude will not bring you long term success. Only you can see the need to be thankful and change your attitude from negative to positive. Mary Englebreit says it like this, “If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change your attitude about it.
